Recap: PNC Grow Up Great–Our Kids and the Arts

For the third year, The Cleveland Museum of Art and its partners at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Playhouse Square, and The Cleveland Orchestra hosted 120 early childhood educators for a professional development day on Monday, March 26 at the art museum with the generous support of PNC Grow Up Great–Our Kids and the Arts. Participants enjoyed a keynote presentation by Hedda Sharapan, Director of Early Childhood Initiatives a!

t The Fred Rogers Company—who featured beloved clips from Mister Rogers Neighborhood—and three workshops coordinated by the four participating cultural institutions which focused on integrating the visual, dramatic, and musical arts in the Pre-K classroom.

Teachers completed a “puzzling” activity led by Kate Hoffmeyer and Christie Klubnik in the east wing galleries. Teachers were asked to decide the emotions evoked by various brushstrokes, lines, and colors in works from the permanent collection.

PlayhouseSquare challenged teachers to include the dramatic arts in their classroom.


The Cleveland Orchestra and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum partnered to provide teachers with a movement- and music-filled experience.

The museum celebrated three years of PNC Grow Up Great and the accomplishments of its partner teachers in the StART SmART program—and the partner teachers of the Rock Hall, The Cleveland Orchestra, and PlayhouseSquare—with a festive parade! Every teacher donned a homemade paper hat and rattled noisemakers to conclude the day!
